What foods to avoid when you have kids!

Parenting is the hardest job on the planet because our decisions have an impact on our most loved ones and their physical, emotional and mental #health. While modern life forces us, parents, to be working long hours, cooking healthy meals from scratch is sometimes not an option. But when we do choose to buy processed products we can avoid some ingredients to minimize the negative impact those foods have on our kids’ health.

1) Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)/ Yeast Extract: is addictive and produces harmful effects on the brain, and in some cases cause Thyroid disruption. MSG can be found in seasoned/flavoured potato chips, soup mixes, fast foods, noodles, etc..

2) Food Grade Petroleum/Petrolatum/Mineral Oil: It can potentially damage our livers and kidneys. It can mimic the effects of estrogen and can promote tumors growth. It can be found in breakfast cereals, candy, brightly coloured children’s foods.

3) Tartrazine/Yellow 5: Food dyes are carcinogenic, linked to hyperactivity and can cause hypersensitivity reactions, including allergies, food intolerance or asthma. It can be found cheese flavoured foods, junk foods and candy.

4) Red dye 40: same as yellow food coluring, red dye 40 has also carcinogenic properties and the risk of hypersensitivity reactions. It can be found in drink, candy, yogurts, condiments

5) High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS): It increases cardiovascular disease risk, plays a role in obesity and is associated with kidney damage. It can be found in beverages, candy, dairy products, condiments, cereals
